New priority program coordinated by the University of Bonn
The German Research Foundation (DFG) is establishing a new priority program coordinated by the University of Bonn. Prof. Dr. Thomas Becker from the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and his colleagues are focusing their attention on how the power houses of the cell (mitochondria) are integrated into the cellular proteostasis network. Proteostasis stands for the basic cell biological processes such as the folding, transport and degradation of proteins. A deeper insight into the interplay of mitochondria and proteostasis network may contribute to better understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and aging processes. The DFG is funding the supraregional network with around 7.8 million euros for an initial period of three years.

Summer School 2025
The Summer School on „Protein import into mitochondria“ will take place at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Bonn, from September 01–04, 2025.
During the Summer School you will
- learn different methods to analyze protein import into mitochondria, including protein import assay into isolated mitochondria and blue native electrophoresis,
- attend lectures about protein import assays into mitochondria,
- take part in a Soft Skill Workshop (tbd),
- present and discuss your research results with a poster,
- and network with other great young researchers from different German research institutions.
As the number of participants is limited to 20 participants, we kindly ask all interested PhD students and Postdocs that are associated with the SPP2453 to apply with a motivation letter. Please send your application for the Summer School via e-mail to abaehr@uni-bonn.de until April 30, 2025. The Coordinating Board of the SPP2453 will select promising candidates.
Please note: The SPP2453 will cover the costs of travel, accommodation and (partially) meals.
We look forward to welcoming you in Bonn!
